Surely Cuba is a music world power. Here is a wonderful song that speaks about slaves seeking freedom ("bruca" means mountain in Yoruba, and "manigua" is a Cuban word for forest); I think it is actually written in a slaves' jargon. I love it from 1:25 when the chorus begins, lovely Cuban rhythm.
